An accident on the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike snarled traffic Monday morning.
The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. at mile marker 38 in the southbound lanes between the Quakertown and Lansdale interchanges in Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County.
According to police, the accident involved a commercial truck and overturned passenger vehicle. The truck jackknifed, blocking all southbound lanes.
The turnpike's southbound lanes were reopened to traffic around 9:45 a.m., but delays kept traffic backed up for more than an hour after that.
State police said this involved two separate accidents.
Around 8:22 a.m., a southbound passenger car overturned, and a commercial truck jackknifed trying to avoid that car.
The truck driver was not hurt.
The driver of the car was taken to St. Luke's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the truck was empty at the time of the crash.
