A man was arrested after carjacking an ambulance with a patient inside and then bailing out on a busy highway, police said.

Philadelphia police said they got a call around 3 p.m. Friday that a man with a gun confronted an ambulance crew and commandeered the vehicle, which was transporting a patient to a hospital.

The suspect pulled over on Interstate 76 -- the Schuylkill Expressway -- and took off running. Police quickly caught him.

The female patient was taken to the hospital in another ambulance. Authorities said she didn't have a medical emergency.

It's unclear what prompted the incident.

WPVI-TV said the suspect was well-dressed and appeared agitated while being taken into custody, and was shouting about a lottery ticket.
