More patients are coming forward with allegations against a Bucks County psychiatrist.
In January, Dr. Basem Shlewiet, of Doylestown, was arrested after three of his patients told police they were touched inappropriately during treatments between April and December of 2013.
Police say two of the victims were under the age of 18. Shlewiet was charged with two counts of unlawful contact with a minor, two counts of corruption of minors and seven counts of indecent assault.
On Friday, the Bucks County District Attorney announced that five additional alleged victims have stepped forward.
Shlewiet is now charged with ten additional counts of indecent assault. He was arraigned Friday in Warrington, Pa.
Shlewiet is the former medical director at KidsPeace, which is based in North Whitehall Twp., Lehigh County. The organization released the following statement today:
“We are saddened to learn of the additional charges filed against Dr. Basem Shlewiet, who served as medical director for KidsPeace from Aug. 23, 2010, through Feb. 24, 2012, when he resigned to focus on his private practice in Doylestown. Our entire mission at KidsPeace centers on providing healing to children working through crisis, and we take criminal charges like this very seriously. We can assure you that Shlewiet had all appropriate clearances on file before he was hired and was properly licensed through the day he resigned.”
