Edwin Carrero sentenced for murder of girlfriend in Pottstown
A man who admitted to killing his girlfriend in Pottstown will be spending decades behind bars.
Edwin Carrero was sentenced Monday to a total of 23 to 46 years in state prison, including concurrent sentences of one to two years for a probation violation and theft.
Carrero pleaded guilty to third degree murder in February, a year after he strangled Alicia Schmidt inside her home in the 400 block of Cherry Street.
Carrero then called his ex-wife and admitted to choking Schmidt while Schmidt's two children were upstairs. The children weren't hurt.
Carrero was arrested in Florida a few days after the homicide and returned to Pennsylvania.
