SOUTH COVENTRY TWP., Pa. -

An elderly man was rushed to the hospital Thursday after crashing this minivan and being trapped inside for more than an hour, state police said.

The accident happened around 9:45 a.m. Thursday on Route 23 in South Coventry Twp., Chester Co.

The driver, believed to be in his 80s, lost control of the minivan, hit two small cement pillars and went down an embankment, police said. The van came to rest on its side.

Rescue crews provided the man with oxygen as they worked for more than an hour to free him from the van. He was freed shortly before 11 a.m. and rushed to the trauma center at Reading Hospital in West Reading.

Police on the scene had no information about the extent of the victim's injuries.
