Eric Torres charged in shooting of Philadelphia police Ofc. Edward Davies
Authorities have charged a 31-year-old man who allegedly left a Philadelphia police officer critically wounded during a struggle Tuesday morning.
Eric Torres was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and firearms violations in the shooting of Ofc. Edward Davies.
Torres, 31, was pulled over for a broken taillight but was evasive when another police officer questioned him and then sped away.
Officers later spotted the car and chased Torres into a store at 4th and West Annsbury streets, where the struggle began and Davies was shot.
Torres has 12 prior arrests, including at least one other assault on a police officer, and other assault and drug charges, police said.
Davies, 41, a 6-year veteran of the force, is recovering from emergency surgery but city officials said he faces more surgeries.
