Feds: Independence Visitors Center can't reopen
If you're headed to Philadelphia to see some of the nation's great landmarks, you may want to make other plans.
The director of a visitors center on Philadelphia's Independence Mall said his efforts to reopen during the government shutdown have been snubbed.
James Cuorato, who runs the Independence Visitors Center, said the National Park Service has denied his request to reopen.
The park service said sites across the country are only reopening if the state can fund the operation of the entire park.
Federal officials said that hasn't happened on Independence Mall, which includes the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.
The visitors center closure leaves workers like Albert Lee without paychecks.
Lee said he voted for elected officials because he thought they'd make smart decisions, but he said he's been proven wrong.
The shutdown has been underway for two weeks.
