Khusen Akhmedov, suspect in drag racing deaths, on bail in federal fraud case
A man who allegedly was drag racing and struck and killed four members of a Philadelphia family had been out on bail in an ambulance fraud case, police said.
Khusen Akhmedov was racing in a 2012 Audi when he killed Samara Banks, 28, and her three young sons late Tuesday as the family crossed Roosevelt Boulevard.
Akhmedov, 23, of Lancaster, and Ahmen Holloman, 30, of Philadelphia, are being held on $2.5 million bail each on murder and other charges.
In the fraud case, federal authorities said Akmedov and others recruited non-emergency patients for ambulance trips, defrauding Medicare of $3.6 million. He was released on $100,000 bail in April.
