A 23-year-old Bucks County man is being held on $5 million bail, accused of breaking out of prison and stabbing a Bensalem police officer.
An arrest warrant was out for Matthew Miller of the 400 block of Wicker Avenue after he escaped from the Bucks County Correctional Facility in Doylestown.
Officer Michael Jachimski spotted Miller around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said, and tried to arrest Miller.
During the attempted arrest, Miller became combative with Jachimski, then ran toward the police cruiser in an attempt to steal the car, police said.
Another struggle ensued between the two near the vehicle and police said Miller stabbed the officer in the stomach.
Jachimski was wearing a bulletproof vest at the time and was not injured.
After stabbing Jachimski, Miller stole the police car and fled, police said, and the car was found later abandoned in the area of Kinghts Road and Fairdale Drive.
Miller was eventually caught in the area of the Chalfont Playground, not far from the abandoned car.
Miller was charged with attempted murder of a police officer and related charges.
