Montgomery County priest arrested after allegedly grabbing man's genitals at YMCA
Priest charged with indecent assault, harassment
Roman Catholic church officials say a Montgomery County priest has been arrested and charged with harassment and indecent assault.
Lansdale police arrested 64-year-old Rev. John Roebuck Friday for an incident that happened at the North Penn YMCA on Dec. 15, according to a release from Lansdale police.
Police say Roebuck was in the locker room of the YMCA when he extended his hand his hand to say goodbye to an adult male he had met there while in the sauna. It was at this point Roebuck grabbed the man's genitals, according to police.
Police say the victim then reported the incident to YMCA staff. The staff questioned Roebuck, who denied anything had occurred, according to police.
Church officials call the charges ``deeply troubling.'' The 64-year-old priest is on administrative leave from his job as parochial vicar at St. Stanislaus in Lansdale.
Roebuck was arraigned by a district judge, who set bail at $50,000 unsecured.
A message left at Roebuck's parish office was not immediately returned. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
The archdiocese says it is cooperating with investigators. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.
