Homeless deal with cold

A “Point in Time” count of unsheltered homeless individuals will be done on Jan. 29 throughout Bucks County -- and the public is being asked to help.

The countywide count will be done by the Housing Continuum of Bucks County.

It will be the seventh such survey conducted in the county since 2008.

The Point in Time count serves as the primary source of data locally and nationally to understand homelessness trends and to track progress on efforts to prevent and end homelessness for all communities.

The count is part of an annual nationwide initiative by  the Department of Housing and Urban Development  to assess the extent and characteristics of homelessness across the country.

During the course of the survey, efforts are taken by survey teams to reach out to homeless individuals and families and provide links to services and immediate shelter.

In addition to the unsheltered homeless survey, the Housing Continuum of Care for Bucks County Committee  will also conduct a survey of those who are homeless but sheltered on the same day. That will be done to provide a more complete picture of the homelessness in Bucks County and provide information to design services and programs to combat homelessness at all levels.

Survey organizers welcome information from county residents to identify locations where homeless individuals have been observed or are believed to be living.

Anyone with information regarding potential locations is urged to contact Bucks County staff members Scott Griffith at 215-345-3840 or sgriffith@co.bucks.pa.us or Emma Weisser at 215 345 3370 or eweisser@co.bucks.pa.us.
