Mail spills out of truck in Bucks
Thousands of pieces of mail dumped on Route 611
An incident in Bucks County gave a new meaning to 'air mail.'
Part of a busy road in Bucks County had to be shut down for a while Monday morning after thousands of pieces of mail spilled onto the road.
It happened at about 7:15 a.m. on Route 611 at Bristol Road in Warrington Twp.
Postal Inspector Reggie Wade said heavy straps securing containers inside the back of a tractor trailer broke, causing the load to shift. The cargo knocked the truck's rear gate open.
The mail spilled all over the road.
Wade said the truck, driven by a contractor, was carrying mostly bulk business mail, from the Philadelphia processing facility to the Doylestown Post Office.
One of the lanes was shut down while crews worked to clean up the mess.
Wade said the mail was recovered and taken back to Philadelphia to be processed again.
No other vehicles were involved, and no one was hurt.
