Man charged with killing woman in her home
Police said an argument went horribly wrong, resulting in the death of a woman.
Police arrested Johnny Fossett on charges of first and second degree murder in connection with the death of Lori Jefferson.
Fossett called the Montgomery County dispatch center at 6:48 a.m. and 7:16 a.m. Sunday to say he wanted to report a crime and turn himself in, police said.
After police learned of the calls, they first tried to contact Jefferson at her home in the Wyndmoor section of Springfield Township. When they couldn't contact her, they forced their way into her home at 7:37 a.m. Sunday to check on her condition.
Police said they found her bound and gagged, lying face down on the floor of her bedroom. She was dead.
On Monday, an autopsy showed Jefferson had died by strangulation, and the coroner ruled the death a homicide.
Investigators also narrowed the time of her death to between 12:06 a.m. and 7:37 a.m. on Sunday. They said she'd been on the phone with an acquaintance for eight minutes, starting just before midnight.
Fossett had been living at Jefferson's home, and the two had met in Jacksonville, Fla., in 2011, police said.
The two had an argument that escalated, and Fossett began choking Jefferson, police said. After strangling, binding and gagging her, police said. Fossett took several items from the home, including a TV and a computer. He also took her car and fled to Philadelphia.
Fossett was arraigned Monday and committed to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail. His preliminary hearing is set for Jan. 26.
