QUAKERTOWN, Pa. -

Health officials in Bucks County say eight students in the Quakertown  Community School District have been diagnosed with whooping cough as of Thursday.

Officials say another six students are being treated with antibiotics and culture results haven't yet confirmed if they too have the disease.
Several cases of whooping cough, also known as pertussis, were diagnosed last week in Hunterdon County, New Jersey.

Most often, symptoms of pertussis include a cough lasting more than two weeks.

There may be coughing fits, possibly followed by vomiting. The cough may be severe enough that the child has difficulty breathing between coughs. Often the child may have no signs of illness between coughs.
