LIMERICK, Pa. -

A Montgomery County nuclear power plant is getting a little extra time to make some upgrades.

The company that owns the Limerick Generating Station says it's been granted a multi-year extension to make safety upgrades.

These upgrades were ordered by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission after tainted water from a damaged Japanese plant leaked into the ocean, back in 2011.

The plant now has until 2018 to finish installing special vents that can continue to operate in extreme conditions.
