Pa. lawmaker pushes for background checks for gun buyers
A state representative is calling on the Pennsylvania lawmakers to pass gun legislation on the state level.
Bucks County Democrat Steve Santarsiero held an event Wednesday to push the House Judiciary Committee to vote on House Bill 1010, which he introduced last month.
The measure would require background checks for all gun purchases made in Pennsylvania.
Santarsiero said it would close a loophole that allows private vendors to sell assault rifles without conducting background checks.
State Attorney General Kathleen Kane said the bill has the potential to save lives.
"That pool of people that has been spared by the reduction of being murdered by an illegally purchased weapon, that pool of people, that could be your son. That could be your daughter. That could be your mother or father. And guess what? Their lives count," said Kane.
Santarsiero said the legislation has bipartisan support.
