The Quakertown Community School District approved a maintenance contract with SSC Services Thursday evening. The company, however, has been performing work for the district for months, without getting paid, and without the school board’s approval of a contract.
The oversight was seen more of a technicality and a procedural hiccup. The board agreed performing maintenance and cleanup was necessary before schools could open. SSC had been awarded the bid, but no contract was signed when it was time to begin work.
During the last school Board Meeting, approval for the contract was up for a vote, but Board Director Bob Smith noted most of the board had not even read the contract even though the company was performing work for the school district.
Smith called for a motion to table the vote until members on the board could read the contract and have any questions answered by the company.
