FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

Police in Montgomery County have taken a man into custody after negotiating with authorities from inside his home for hours.

It all started around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Bartlett Court in Franconia Township and ended peacefully around 10:30 p.m.

Police say they were called to check on the welfare of a 54-year-old man who a friend reported was drinking and saying he would harm himself.

Police negotiated with the man throughout the afternoon and evening and eventually was taken into custody without incident and taken to a mental health facility for evaluation.
