On the go with a dog that has to go? The Philadelphia International Airport is offering some relief.

The airport, complying with a federal regulation, has set up seven temporary animal relief areas within the secured area of its terminals.

Each area, bordered on three sides by a three-foot wall, measures eight feet by seven feet and contains artificial grass and a red faux fire hydrant. It also contains a waste station with doggie bags.

Previously, travelers had to exit a terminal to reach one of seven outdoor relief areas and then be re-screened by TSA agents.

"These relief areas will make traveling more convenient and less stressful for passengers with disabilities," said Kieran Sheridan, the PHL's chief operating officer. "In addition to service dogs, the relief areas can be used by other animals who are traveling in the aircraft cabin with their owner."

The airport said it will look to install permanent areas as it refurbishes its terminals over the next several years.

The locations of the interim areas are:

  • Terminal A-West, near Gate A16
  • Terminal A-East, near the Gate A1 shuttle bus stop
  • Terminal B, at the B end of the AB-link
  • Terminal C, at the C end of the CD-link
  • Terminal D, at the D end of the CD-link
  • Terminal E, at Gate E-1
  • Terminal F, just past the checkpoint, in the elevator/escalator lobby
