EAST NORRITON TWP., Pa. -

A pregnant woman was fatally shot Friday afternoon in her home in what appears to be an accidental discharge of a handgun.

Joanne Miller was rushed to the hospital where she later died.

Her unborn child also did not survive.

It's unclear how the gun discharged, but we do know it happened just before 2:30 Friday afternoon inside their house on Stoneycreek Road in East Norriton Township.

"Person involved with it called 911, he is an off duty State Trooper and was cooperative throughout this investigation," said Kevin Steele, first assistant district attorney for Montgomery County, during a Friday evening news conference.

Officials say the gun involved was not the trooper's service weapon.

There are indications that the shooting was an accidental discharge, but that is under investigation.

According to authorities, two other children were also in the house when the shooting happened.

Detectives from Montgomery County are working with East Norriton Township Police on this case.

Investigators hope an autopsy scheduled for Saturday morning will shed more light on exactly what happened.
