No charges filed in accident involving Franklin Twp., N.J., police car

FRANKLIN TWP., Pa. - The Hunterdon Co., N.J. prosecutor says no summons will be issued involving an accident with a police cruiser.

The accident happened around 3:40 p.m. June 22 on Route 12 near Old Croton Road in Franklin Twp.

According to prosecutor Anthony Kearns III, Patrolman John Oliveira swerved to avoid a potentially serious collision with a car he had pulled over for a speeding violation.

The other car  moved to the right shoulder, then as Oliveira's car moved to pass, the other car turned directly in front of the patrol car, Kearns said.

When Oliveira swerved, he lost control of the car, which overturned into a ditch.

Oliveira was extricated from the car and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

There's no word on the other car.
