North Penn blanks Pennridge, advances to PIAA state championship

Maher leads North Penn to shutout of Pennridge

Brian Maher threw a four-hit shutout for North Penn in a 3-0 win over Pennridge Tuesday night in the PIAA 4A state semifinals at Spring-Ford High School.

The win earns the Knights a berth in Friday night's state title game against Lower Dauphin at 6pm in State College.

Maher struck out four and didn't allow a walk, pitching his second complete game shutout of the PIAA state playoffs.

North Penn (16-10), which was the last team into the District One playoffs, now has a chance to win its second state title in the last five years.

The Knights beat Parkland for the state championship back in 2009.
