Coffee with Viagra-like ingredient recalled

Ingrediant could react with prescription drugs

Texas-based company Bestherbs Coffee LLC is recalling some of its products due to undeclared ingredients that are similar to the active ingredients in Viagra.

According to The Washington Post, the ingredient most in question, desmethyl carbodenafil, can be dangerous to men with medical issues.

"Desmethyl carbodenafil is structurally similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra," an FDA spokesperson said in a statement.

"The undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs, such as nitroglycerin, and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates."

Owner of Bestherbs Coffee LLC, Albert Lee, says he estimates a few hundred thousand bags from customers will be recalled and sent to the FDA for destruction.
