Lock of George Washington's hair found in book

Book was published in 1793

A lock of President George Washington's hair was found in a book at New York's Union College library, reports WTEN.

The hair was found inside of an envelope, which was tucked into an old book. According to the library, the book was published in 1793 and has an inscription reading, "Phillip J. Schuyler. Given to him by one of his friends."

The head of collections and archives at Union College, India Spartz, told the station Schuyler's dad was a general who served with Washington.

"They were well connected, they had a good social standing," Spartz said.

The college plans to eventually put the hair on display.
