Tokyo public school adopts Armani uniforms

Parents say school fees are burden enough

A public school in Tokyo is introducing Giorgio Armani uniforms -- and some parents aren't happy.

Taimei Elementary School, which as already drawn criticism for its burdensome school fees, announced that it plans to add the uniforms, which cost more than 80,000 yen ($730), The Associated Press reported.

The recommended uniforms (not required) will be rolled out in April, the AP reported.

The basics include a navy-blue jacket, matching trousers or a skirt, a long-sleeved shirt and a hat, the AP reported. The set costs more than twice the price of the current uniforms.

The school is located next to an Armani boutique in the upscale Ginza shopping district, the AP reported.
