Officers learn new techniques of gathering criminal evidence

BERN TWP., Pa. - Law enforcers in Berks County are brushing up their evidence collecting skills.

Officers from 16 police departments have been learning new evidence gathering techniques this week at the district attorney's forensic lab in Bern Township.

The officers spent time in the classroom, and they put their skills to the test at a mock crime scene on Friday.

"It is so important that we have departments that have trained evidence technicians because the evidence that we collect is evidence that we can then show to a defendant, which ensures that we are going to have a successful prosecution," said Theresa Johnson, first asst. district attorney.

The training is funded by the district attorney's office and the Berks County Chiefs of Police Association.
