Officials Investigate Reported Rapes At Kutztown University

MAXATAWNY TWP., Pa. - Officials at Kutztown University said a woman reported being raped early Sunday morning. Now a second alleged incident is being investigated.

Officials said a female student reported being raped around 4:00 a.m. on the DMZ, which is the courtyard area between residence halls. Officials said the victim knew the alleged offender and was able to identify him to police.

Kutztown officials said both the victim and the alleged offender are students who live on campus.

The university police department and the Berks County District Attorney's Office are investigating the report.

University officials sent an e-mail to students to alert them to the situation Sunday afternoon. They encouraged students to be vigilant and practice good safety habits on campus.

A K.U. spokesman told 69 News that a second report of rape is being investigated. It was reported to police after the e-mail alert was sent. Officials said they are taking the reports seriously.
