Lynx and Bears advance to District baseball semifinals

Lynx, Bears earn District wins; Cougars fall

The Oley Valley and Boyertown baseball teams advanced to their respective District baseball semifinals on Friday. Kutztown softball fell to Pequea Valley in the District III-AA field.

At Muhlenberg, (10) Oley Valley held off (15) Fleetwood, 5-3, in an all-Berks District III-AAA baseball quarterfinal. The game went back and forth for most of the afternoon before Oley took the 2-run lead into the 7th. Nick Distasio pitched out of a bases loaded jam to seal it, aided by a bullet from center fielder Hunter Renninger that preserved the 2-run advantage.

The Lynx advance to the semifinals where they will meet Northern York on Tuesday.

At Boyertown, the host Bears edged Pennridge, 1-0, in a District I-AAAA quarterfinal.

Brandon Griesemer tossed a gem for Boyertown, allowing just four hits in a complete game shutout. Jordan Shustack scored the only run of the game on a 2nd inning passed ball.

The Bears will meet PAC-10 rival Spring-Ford in the semis on Tuesday.

In Laureldale, (3) Pequea Valley shutout (6) Kutztown, 2-0, in a District III-AA softball quarterfinal on Friday.

Kutztown struggled to score with runners on base, as Amanda Houck pitched out of trouble all afternoon.
