1864: Automobile manufacturing pioneer John Francis Dodge is born in Niles, Mich. Dodge would go on to become the co-founder of Dodge Brothers Company, which was formed in 1900 to supply parts and assemblies for Detroit's growing auto industry and began making its own complete vehicles in 1915.
