One killed, another injured after car hits pole in Hatfield

Police said car was going around 80 mph and missed a curve

HATFIELD, Pa. - One person is dead and another was injured after a car hit a pole and he was thrown from the vehicle in Montgomery County.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. Monday in the 1600 block of North Broad Street in Hatfield.

The car, driven by Timothy Tan Nguyen, 21, of Hatfield, was seen traveling down Broad Street at a high rate of speed, police said.

As the car came to a slight curve in the road, Nguyen lost control, the car began to rotate and slide across the road, police said.

The car then struck a utility pole off the eastbound lane. Due to the force of the impact with the pole, the car split into three sections, police said.

Nguyen was ejected from the car, and his passenger, 22-year-old Andy Kham of Hatfield was trapped in the wreckage, police said.

Kham was flown to Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment. His condition is unknown.

Police said just before the accident, Lansdale police had seen the car traveling through the borough at an estimated speed of more than 80 mph, and advised other officers in the area of the speeding vehicle.
