One man seriously hurt in Wayne Township accident

WAYNE TOWNSHIP, Pa. - A three vehicle accident in Wayne Township closed a portion of Route 183 until early Sunday morning, according to police.

State Police said the accident happened shortly after 10:00 Saturday night at the intersection of Route 183 and Blue Mountain Heights Road. A Chevrolet Cruze driven by James Gauche, 49, of Schuylkill Haven, was preparing to turn left from Route 183 onto Blue Mountain heights when it was struck from behind by a Honda Odyssey driven by Guerlyne Taussai of Douglassville, according to a police news release.

According to State Police, the impact pushed Gauche's vehicle into the oncoming traffic lane, into the path of a Doge Ram pickup. The Ram was unable to stop, striking Gauche's vehicle before continuing into a sign and flipping over onto its driver side, police said.

Gauche was unconscious and had to be extricated from his vehicle, according to police. He was flown via Live Flight to Lehigh Valley Hospital, police said. Hospital officials said Gauche was in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon.

State Police said Taussai was taken to Reading hospital for leg and chest pain. The driver of the Ram, Leo Tobin, along with passengers Tracy Tobin and two children, were treated for minor injuries at Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson.

Police said the roadway was closed for about five hours. The accident remains under investigation.
