Car v. horse and buggy

MAIDENCREEK TWP., Pa. - One person has died after an accident involving a vehicle and a horse-and-buggy Monday night.

A car hit a horse-and-buggy at approximately 10:15 p.m. Monday in the 800 block of Park Road in Maidencreek Twp., Berks Co.

The coroner said a woman, Laura Ringler, died of head and neck injuries she suffered in the accident. Her husband was seriously injured.

The horse suffered near-fatal injuries so police put the animal down when they arrived on the scene, officials said.  A veterinarian confirmed the horse was dead.

Two people were rushed to the hospital, officials said.  There is no word on how seriously they were hurt or whether they were riding in the buggy or car.
