READING, Pa. - A longtime project that will offer luxury apartments at affordable prices in downtown Reading is almost complete.

The Senator Mike O'Pake GoggleWorks Apartments will open its doors for a tour this weekend.

Developers of the apartment complex said they've received so many requests from people who want to see what the inside looks like.

A grand opening is set for August 1, but retailer Al Boscov opened the doors to a sample apartment on Friday, and 69 News got a sneak peak inside.

Concrete was still being poured outside the complex on the northwest corner of North 2nd and Washington streets in Entertainment Square. The building sits right across from the IMAX theater.

"They're big. This apartment is a two-bedroom, almost a small house. It's a little over 1,300 square feet, which is much roomier than most apartments," said Boscov.

The middle-level income apartments are loaded with amenities. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances and granite counter tops. The place also comes with a full washer and dryer.

"The larger bedroom comes with two huge walk-in closets," said Boscov.

The complex has a garage downstairs, an exercise room, and the outside will be a place to relax with two entertainment decks filled with tables and chairs.

"So that everyone living in the apartments gets to know each other if they want, or they can use it for breakfast," Boscov said.

Construction is not complete, but the building has been a dream of Boscov's to complete Entertainment Square and renew the city's vitality.

"We now have apartments for people to live in right in the area with all the conveniences," he said.

The open house will be on Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Boscov said he has already sent out applications to fill the 59 apartments.

In addition to the Reading Movies 11 & IMAX theater, Entertainment Square also includes the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Panevino restaurant, RACC's Miller Center for the Arts, and 69-WFMZ-TV's studios. Plans are in the works for more restaurants, Boscov said.
