Civil War wax museum up for sale in Gettysburg

Owners looking to retire, seeking $1.7 million for 51-year-old museum

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - A wax museum commemorating the Civil War is up for sale -- months ahead of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.

The owners of the American Civil War Wax Museum in Gettysburg have put it on the market for nearly $1.7 million. The museum's general manager, Tammy Myers, said the owners are looking to retire.

The museum opened 51 years ago. It's home to 35 scenes and more than 300 life-size wax figures. It also has living history encampments in which re-enactors show how solders lived and fought during the war.

The 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg will be commemorated in July. The battle is considered the war's turning point, as the Northern army repelled Gen. Robert E. Lee and the Confederate Army.
