Convicted Pennsylvania attorney general is 'humbled,' seeks probation

NORRISTOWN, Pa. - The former attorney general of Pennsylvania said she's been "humbled and embarrassed" by her perjury conviction and hopes to avoid jail time so she can raise her children.

Kathleen Kane will be sentenced Monday for leaking grand jury documents and lying about it under oath.

Defense lawyers in court papers Tuesday said the fall from grace has been painful for Kane.

Prosecutors said the first-term Democrat disgraced the office by plotting revenge on rivals and blaming others for the leak. They have asked that she be incarcerated.

Kane faces anything from probation to 12 to 24 years in prison.

Kane, 50, was a rising political star when she won the 2012 race to be the state's top law enforcement officer.

She was convicted at trial in August.
