Pa. jobless rate ticked up slightly in July

HARRISBURG, Pa. - The unemployment rate for Pennsylvanians rose slightly last month.

The state Department of Labor & Industry released July's numbers on Friday.

The jobless rate rose one-tenth of a percentage point from June to 5.7 percent.

This was the state's first unemployment rate increase since June of 2012.

Yet, Pennsylvania's jobless rates was still five-tenths of a percentage point below the national rate of 6.2 percent, which also ticked up one-tenth of a point in July.

According to Labor & Industry officials, despite July's slight increase, employment has been trending upward, as 40,000 more people are working in the past year, and 21,000 more in 2014.
