RICHLAND TWP., Pa. - Hundreds of people, wearing next to nothing, got "cold for a cause" this New Year's Day.
Brave souls, who rightfully call themselves "polar bears," took part in the 23rd annual Polar Bear Club plunge at the Willow Springs Park in Richland Twp., Lebanon Co.
Most didn't stay in the 38 degree water very long, but some chose to stick it out for as long as they could and have a little fun.
This year's event was dedicated to the late James "Jim" McGinniss, a faithful polar bear plunger.
Proceeds benefit Developmental and Disability Services of Lebanon Valley, which provides services to more than 400 children and adults each year.
It was also a very quick dip for most folks who took the polar plunge in Pottstown, Montgomery Co., on Tuesday.
A good-sized crowd jumped into the Schuylkill River in Riverfront Park.
Some folks stayed in a little longer to get the full experience.
Swimmers looking to warm up were in luck when organizers set a huge bonfire.
