YORK, Pa. - A central Pennsylvania man accused of kidnapping a 7-month-old boy told a witness he killed the crying child by shaking him, and then buried him somewhere, according to a search warrant affidavit.
The warrant issued late Wednesday said 30-year-old Ummad Rushdi told Jawwad Rushdi on Monday that the killing occurred a day earlier, after Hamza Ali woke up crying. Investigators said the baby is the son of Ummad Rushdi's girlfriend.
Ummad Rushdi said he tried to revive the child but couldn't, then took him from a Philadelphia-area home and buried him, according to the court document.
Investigators have said the child was abducted Sunday from the home in Upper Darby.
Ummad Rushdi is jailed in Delaware County on kidnapping and other charges. Court officials said he doesn't have a lawyer.
