Pocono Mountain Regional Police found 60 bags of heroin when they stopped a car in Monroe County. A 5-year-old boy was in the back seat.

The car was traveling north on Route 196 in Coolbaugh Township when police stopped it at A Pocono Country Place gate around 10:45 p.m. Nov. 25.

The driver of the Cadillac Escalade was identified as 45-year-old Joseph Michael of Cresco.

The front passenger, 45-year-old James Bonfante, of Tobyhanna Township,  was listed as the car's owner.

A rear passenger was 50-year-old Michael Wance, also of Tobyhanna Township. A 5-year-old boy, identified as Joseph Michael's nephew, was in the back seat.

A police investigation showed that the men possessed 60 bags of heroin they had just picked up in Newark, N.J. The bags were stamped 'Versace.'

A search of Michael's home found two pairs of brass knuckles, plus several items of drug paraphernalia, including needles, packaging materials, smoking devices and other evidence of drug dealing, police said.

The boy was released to Monroe County Children and Youth, who located the boy's parents.

Each of the men was charged with possession with intent to deliver heroin, criminal use of a communication facility, criminal conspiracy, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of prohibited offensive weapons (brass knuckles).

The three men were committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail each.
