State Police in Swiftwater arrested a man they said drove drunk with his son in the back seat, then assaulted police officers as they were trying to arrest him.
Police said they pulled over Gonzalo Cortez, 37, after observing him driving erratically on Route 611 heading north toward Mount Pocono, Monroe County. A state trooper stopped Cortez, who pulled off Route 611 in the Shop-Rite plaza.
The trooper then did a field sobriety test on Cortez, which police said he failed.
As the trooper arrested Cortez for DUI, he began resisting the trooper and bit the trooper on his right wrist, police said. Additional police were called in for back-up, and Cortez continued resisting, and police said he bit another officer from Pocono Mountain Regional Police.
Police said Cortez had his eight-year-old son in the back seat during the incident.
Cortez is charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children, resisting arrest, simple assault and DUI.
