A popular swimming area in Carbon County has reopened to swimmers a week after tests showed there were high levels of bacteria in the water.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) closed the Beltzville Lake Beach to swimming last Thursday.

The DCNR announced Wednesday that it had received safe bacterial counts in water samples from June 16, so the lake was reopened to swimmers.

The DCNR closed the park on June 5 for the same reason and reopened it a few days later.
