Man tries to steal car with woman sitting in it

A New York man is in the Monroe County Correctional Facility after being arrested for trying to steal two cars.

At 7:41 p.m. Saturday, Pocono Mountain Regional Police responded to a report of a male attempting to steal a vehicle from a driveway at Chelsea Circle in Coolbaugh Township.

Police learned a woman was waiting for her husband in their car, which was in the driveway, when the suspect attempted to remove her. The woman's husband confronted the suspect, who fled in a blue SUV.

The man also was observed attempting to steal another vehicle at the house next door.

The suspect was identified as 49-year-old Andrew N. Makowicz of Centereach, N.Y.

Police report they located him elsewhere in the community. When stopped, police observed several vodka bottles in his vehicle and also recovered marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

He was charged with attempted robbery, two counts of attempted theft by unlawful taking, loitering and prowling at night, driving under the influence, possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
