Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in Monroe County for the trial of a man accused of killing a retired school teacher, in a case that stretched from the Poconos to South Carolina.

Prosecutors in Monroe County are seeking the death penalty against Rico Herbert, who's accused of killing 87-year-old Joseph DeVivo of Stroud Township back in 2012.

DeVivo went missing in February 2012.

Police said Herbert was found driving DeVivo's car in North Carolina. DeVivo's body was later found in South Carolina.

Investigators said Herbert may have targeted DeVivo because of information he got from someone else.

DeVivo's death sent shock waves through his quiet Stroud Township community.

Immediately following DeVivo's death, his family released this statement: "Our father and grandfather was a good guy. He loved his family, and loved teaching young people."
