Twelve arrested in Sherman Theatre ruckus
Police in the Poconos say nearly 40 officers were needed to contain a melee at a Stroudsburg theatre.
Stroud Area police say 12 people were arrested when the Bar Stool Blackout Event at the Sherman Theater got out of hand over the weekend.
Two people are facing felony charges for allegedly trying to sell cocaine and other drugs.
Police say many of the people involved in the ruckus were drunk, including several people under the age of 21.
Officials say 12 people had to be taken to Pocono Medical Center for treatment.
Richard Berkowitz, President and CEO of the Sherman Theatre, said in a statement issued on Tuesday that, "no fines or infractions were levied against the Sherman or any of its staff during the event."
While supporting the actions of the police, Berkowitz was critical of the data released by police.
"The police report does not compare and contrast this event to other concerts, homecoming games, or holiday weekends where there are a large amount of young adults present."
Berkowitz also called on the media to focus on the issues of "...underage drinking, drug experimentation and over indulgence. We need to bring this epidemic to the forefront of discussion and not sweep it under the rug."
