Controversial police chief Mark Kessler suspended indefinitely

Gilberton police chief suspended indefinitely

GILBERTON, Pa. - A controversial police chief is now off the job indefinitely.

A vote by Gilberton Borough Council late Friday night placed Mark Kessler on leave indefinitely.

Kessler was the borough's police chief when he posted gunfire-riddled, profanity-spewing videos on Facebook.

A public disciplinary hearing had been planned for Friday but was postponed due to a scheduling conflict.

Kessler was suspended for 30 days after using Borough-owned guns to create YouTube videos where he shouted profanity.  The suspension was supposed to end Saturday.

Civil servants facing termination are entitled to a due-process hearing at which they are permitted to respond to the accusations against them.
