Fire rips through row home in East Stroudsburg

Flames erupt on a Monroe County street... in the middle of the night... forcing some residents to jump for their lives.

Fire rips through row home in East Stroudsburg

The owner of the building tells us the fire started when a tenant fell asleep while smoking in bed. Investigators say they've heard that as a possible cause of the fire.. but are still working to confirm it.

While some were able to get out the easy way, two residents had to make a life or death decision. They escaped the flames but didn't get away unharmed.

The fire started in a lower level apartment unit according to East Stroudsburg fire chief Bryan Wallie.

The next step for many residents: Figuring out how to start over.  There's no word on the conditions of the three people who were hurt. Friends have started a fundraiser for the victims.
