POTTSVILLE, Pa. - A local district attorney has filed a complaint for an injunction to stop the sale of bath salts in his county.
Schuylkill County DA James Goodman filed the complaint Wednesday.
The complaint states the sale of bath salts threatens public health, safety, welfare, and is a danger to all the communities in Schuylkill County.
The complaint lists four defendants who are known to sell bath salts in the county, and would ban them, and all other retailers from selling bath salts in Schuylkill County.
Both houses of the Pennsylvania legislature are working on separate legislation that would ban the sale of bath salts in Pennsylvania, but they're not moving fast enough for Goodman.
"Although the Pennsylvania legislature is addressing this issue" he said "the delays in passing legislation necessitates that immediate action to be taken by the District Attorney to protect the citizens of Schuylkill County."
"The use of bath salts has put our police officers in danger," he continued "has strained the resources of our hospital emergency rooms and poses an unreasonable danger to the citizens of Schuylkill County."
The District Attorney's Office is asking for the public's help to identify any businesses that are currently selling bath salts in Schuylkill County. They ask that people call the Schuylkill County Drug Tip Line at 1-800-414-1406.
