Massachusetts man arrested for Walmart theft

Matthew Hunsinger is in Carbon County Prison

MAHONING TOWNSHIP, Pa. - One of three individuals who tried to steal merchandise from a Carbon County Walmart was captured by police and jailed last week.

At 3:08 a.m. July 8,  Mahoning Township police responded to a retail theft report at the Walmart along Route 443 near Lehighton.

Two suspects who were involved fled in a Honda Accord with a Massachusetts license plates.

A police officer arriving at the store spotted a third suspect running down an embankment away from the Walmart.

That suspect was detained.

Police have identified him as Matthew Hunsinger of Weymouth, Mass.

The investigation showed Hunsinger and the individuals who fled in the Honda had attempted to steal $1,254 in merchandise.

After being charged with retail theft  and criminal conspiracy, Hunsinger was placed in Carbon County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
