Michael Rhubart arrested in killing of Jubar Hughes, whose body was found in shallow grave in Kidder Township

Arrest made in Kidder Township homicide

KIDDER TWP., Pa. -

A suspect is in custody in connection with the killing of a man whose body was found in a shallow grave in Carbon County.

Police apprehended Michael Rhubart in Nanticoke, Luzerne Co. in the homicide of Jubar Hughes. Both men, police said, are from Effort, Monroe Co.

Hughes, 33, was found dead Monday night in a shallow grave off an ATV trail on Henning Drive in Kidder Township. He had been shot in the head with a shotgun, police said.

According to court papers, Rhubart and Hughes were roommates at 1109 Juniper Lane in Chestnuthill Twp., Monroe Co.  During an interview with police, they said Rhubart confessed to shooting Hughes on Saturday  in their residence, then buried the body ion Sunday in Carbon Co.

Rhubart, 28, was charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, person not to possess a firearm and tampering with evidence and committed to the Monroe County Jail without bail.

Police said Rhubart was prohibited from possessing a gun because of prior criminal convictions.

Police are not releasing any information about a motive at this time.
