W. MAHANOY TWP., Pa. - Police are searching for the man accused of injuring his daughter's boyfriend at a motel in Schuylkill County.

People in the community say they're shocked and frustrated to hear what happened.

Lisa Mowery says she and her daughters took shelter in a room next door after seeing a man pry his way into a motel room before gunshots went off Sunday.

"It seemed like there was a fight but it was gunshot," she said.

The women work at the Motel 6 in West Mahanoy Township. Just minutes earlier they'd tried checking on room 49.

"We went in to find out if they needed any towels or anything like that they didn't answer," Mowrey said.

That's when officials say Donald Jenkins, 40, entered the room where his daughter and her boyfriend were staying for two nights. Seconds later, there was gunfire.

"It was fast, very fast. It took like a split second, it was quick," Mowrey said.

State Police in Frackville say Jenkins tried to kill his daughter's boyfriend.

According to paperwork, the victim was sitting on the far bed in the room when Jenkins entered and shot the boyfriend in the groin.

First responders transported the victim to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Police say Jenkins, of Shenandoah, is still on the run after fleeing the scene in his vehicle.

He's charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, burglary, aggravated assault, and several related charges.

Police say the suspect's daughter and her boyfriend checked in on Saturday and would've checked out Monday.

Anyone with information on Jenkins' whereabouts should call police at 570-874-5300 or call 911.
